<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain the consumption of toner as well as to shorten processing time for resist adjustment. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus where black printing and color printing are switched, by making an intermediate transfer belt abut on/separate from a photoreceptor by a transfer member for black and a three-color integrated type transfer member for color is equipped with a resist mark forming means (2) forming a resist mark (3) on the intermediate transfer belt, a register mark sensor (25) reading the resist mark, and a control means (1) controlling the resist mark forming means based on the register mark read by the resist mark sensor so as to perform the resist adjustment.
