PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrooptical device which is thinned by improving the constitution of an illumination system.

SOLUTION: The electrooptical device 100 comprises: a pair of substrates 7a and 7b for holding an electrooptical substance L; a light source 21 for making light incident on one substrate 7b being a substrate of a side emitting display light out of the pair of the substrates 7a and 7b; and a plurality of minute optical path conversion oblique faces 73 formed on the reverse side face to the side holding the electrooptical substance L on one substrate 7a for directing light advancing in an in-face direction of one substrate 7b to the side holding the electrooptical substance L.
