Films of regenerated cellulose are impregnated with the reaction product of a 1,2-alkylene imine (including a 1.2-polyalkylene imine) and an alkylating agent or an acylating agent, the mol. ratio of the imine to the agent being between 5 : 1 and 100 : 1 and preferably between about 8 : 1 and 40 : 1. The alkylating agents may contain at least 4, for example up to 22, carbon atoms, those with 8 to 18 carbon atoms being preferred. e.g. 2-ethylhexyl-, decyl-, dodecyl- or octadecyl-chloride. Carboxylic acid halides are preferred, as acylating agents, and these may contain 4 to 22, preferably 8 to 18, carbon atoms in the molecule, e.g. lauroyl-, myristoyl-, palmitoyl- or stearoyl-chloride. The reaction products may be applied as free bases in aqueous solution or as salts formed by reacting the bases with an inorganic acid or an organic acid, e.g. hydrochloric acid, sulphuric acid, formic or acetic acid. In an example, regenerated cellulose film produced from viscose is passed through an aqueous plasticiser bath containing in grams per litre 20 of glycerol, 30 of triglycol, 30 of urea and one of a reaction product of polyethylene imine and octadecyl chloride or bromide in the mol ratio of 20 : 1, and then dried and collected on a roll in the usual manner. Regenerated cellulose films treated in accordance with the invention may be coated with a moistureproof coating (see Group VIII). The impregnation prevents adhesion of superimposed layers of the film to one another during storage and improves the bonding of hydrophobic coatings to the film. Specification 681,494 and German Specification 662,451, are referred to.ALSO:A 1,2-alkylene imine (including a 1,2-poly-alkylene imine) is reacted with an alkylating agent or an acylating agent in a mol. ratio between 5:1 and 100:1, e.g. ethylene imine is reacted with octadecyl chloride or bromide, octyl or butyl chloride, oleic acid chloride or stearic acid chloride in a mol. ratio between 5:1 and 100:1.
