<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transflective liquid crystal display device which has proper directions of: a reflective polarizing plate; a polarizing plate; and alignment of liquid crystal molecules of a memory type liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: The memory type liquid crystal display device (100) has: a first substrate (11a); a second substrate (11b); a reflection type polarizing plate (16) disposed on the first substrate, having a first transmission axis and a first reflection axis mutually perpendicularly intersecting, and transmitting linearly polarized light with a vibration plane parallel to the first transmission axis and further reflecting linearly polarized light with a vibration plane parallel to the first reflection axis; a polarizing plate (15) disposed on the second substrate, having a second transmission axis parallel or vertical to the first transmission axis, and transmitting linearly polarized light with a vibration plane parallel to the second transmission axis; and a memory type liquid crystal layer (10) interposed between the first and second substrates and maintaining one state out of first and second stable states, wherein the direction of alignment of the liquid crystal molecules is arranged so as to have nearly 45° incline with respect to the second transmission axis in the first stable state. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
