PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device which avoids an upper column from collision to a stroke end of a collapse movement even if a shock load in the secondary collision is large, or can reduce the shock applied on a driver by reducing the shock load of the collision at the stroke end. SOLUTION: When an upper bracket 4 at the vehicle body side is separated from a capsule 43 and moved to the front side of the vehicle body at the time of secondary collision, a wave form part 63 deformed in the wave form is borne down on along an inclined surface 461 while linearly extending. Therefore, the resistance for plastically deforming a metal wire 6 is increased and absorption capability of shock energy is improved. Accordingly, the end surface 11 at the front side of the vehicle body of the upper column 1 is avoided from collision with the vehicle body side lower bracket 31, or even if the end surface 11 at the front side of the vehicle body of the upper column 1 collides with the vehicle body side lower bracket 31, a large impact force can be prevented from being generated.
