The device has a circular top element (1) for the positioning of the food to be served on a buffet. The element (1) is provided with a hollow cylindrical extension (8) at the lower side to be inserted into a plastic bearing element (9) with a flange (10) acting as a ball bearing in combination with a circular joint element (7) at the lower side of the top (1). A cylindrical metal sleeve (16) with inserts (17,18) for a better fit is pushed onto a vertical extension (23) located at a base (3). The bearing unit (9) is inserted into the sleeve (16) from above.
