<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To validate only bar code data described in a bar code label that is a reading object without complicating a setting work. <P>SOLUTION: A distance range capable of reading bar code data described in bar code labels is stored in a memory 207, and the distance between a bar code reader and a bar code label that is the reading object is measured by a distance sensor 206.
