The device can be used as a copy of the natural tunnel (4) and widened underground nesting area (5) normally inhabited by the kingfisher or the sand martin during breeding time. It is assembled of an upper (1) and a lower shell made of a suitable synthetic foam material and is provided with a ventilation duct (3). The size of the inner space (4,5) facilitates the additional filling with clay and soil by the bird. The entrance tunnel (4) can be accessed from the top.
