<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a setting method which facilitates a registering operation for an address when access to a printer through a network is limited and is free of misregistration. <P>SOLUTION: The printer decides whether a received packet complies with a designated protocol and stores its transmission source address when so. Addresses which are stored are displayed when an access limitation setting utility is actuated and an address is selected out of them to be registered as an address whose access is allowed. When network settings of the printer are made by operating a computer, an address of the printer or an access point designated at the time of setting is registered to the printer to enable automatic access from the computer or the access point. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
