<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber module that is connectible directly to external optical equipment without using an additional optical fiber cord or the like and that has a pigtail fiber making an excess length unobstructive. <P>SOLUTION: In the optical module 11 in which a functional optical fiber is housed and in which an optical connecting terminal for an external optical equipment is provided, the optical connecting terminal 14 is connected to a pigtail fiber 13 arranged in a manner drawable from or retractable into a housing container 12. Desirably, this pigtail fiber 13 is structured so that the drawn length is held by a fixture. Inside the housing container 12, an excess length winding reel is provided for the purpose of taking up the excess length of the pigtail fiber 13, and a ratchet wheel is also provided allowing the rotation of the reel in one direction.
