PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a crime prevention system capable of dispensing with a sensor and suppressing introduction cost by making the best use of a network household electric appliance. SOLUTION: When a user locks an electric lock 9 provided in an entrance door 8 by a predetermined going-out operation representing that there is nobody in a residence 1, an IT home gateway 2 starts a suspicious manners lookout operation. If a suspicious person passes near a proximity switch 6b2 provided as a switch for a lighting apparatus 6b, the proximity switch 6b2 responds, and the lighting apparatus 6b is turned on. When the lighting apparatus turns on in a going-out mode, the home gateway 2 judges that something unusual occurs, and sends an e-mail message representing unusualness to the mail address of the portable telephone of the user.
