PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device in which rewriting only a firmware portion for determining the polarity of a CSEL signal can be made possible and the device can be recognized even if connected with a PC with different polarity in the CSEL signal. SOLUTION: When the optical disk device in which BIOS and OS for the PC are connected to an IDE port cannot be recognized, the optical disk device alters a CSEL signal determination setting portion because a recognition portion needs to alter setting. After the alteration, power supply for the PC is turned off, the power supply for the PC is restored, and the determination whether or not the optical disk device in which the BIOS and the OS for the PC are connected to the IDE port can be recognized is performed. By reversing the polarity determination, the optical disk device can be recognized by the BIOS and the OS for the PC, and its normal operation restores. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
