PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device capable of easily and surely performing the identification of a highly transmissive optical disk or the 8-cm optical disk having an adaptor, and disk ejection control processing by a simple mechanism. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a main body for housing an optical disk, a disk insertion/ejection port 11 for inserting/ejecting the optical disk into and from the main body, and a roller disposed in the main body to rotate the optical disk in a held state thereby carrying it into the main body. A mechanical detector is disposed in the main body to bring a contact into contact with at least one of the front and back surfaces of the optical disk thereby detecting the optical disk.
