PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil pan device of two-tank type oil pan structure, for detecting, with simple structure, failure of a valve mechanism controlling a condition of an oil communication passage connecting a first chamber with a second chamber depending on a temperature of oil. SOLUTION: An oil temperature sensor 65a is installed, from the outside, on a side plate of an oil pan cover 31 constituting an outside cover of the oil pan device 30. The oil temperature sensor 65a can output a signal depending on the temperature of oil near a thermostat valve device 34 in a second chamber 30b. When an oil temperature of a second chamber is increased immediately after the start of an engine 10, a CPU 71 determines a valve-opening failure wherein the thermostat valve device 34 is fixed with a valve opened state. When the oil temperature of the second chamber 30b doses not increase after a sufficient time has passed from the completion of a warm-up operation, the CPU 71 determines a valve-closing failure wherein the thermostat valve device 34 is fixed with a valve-closed state.
