PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator device capable of easily switching a suspension system for lifting an elevator car by a relatively simple constitution and selecting a suitable suspension system according to the circumstance. SOLUTION: The elevator device is provided with a sheave 2a driven by a hoisting motor 1; a sheave 2b connected to the sheave 2a through a clutch device 3; a brake 4b connected to the sheave 2b; and a main rope 8 for hanging up a suspension sheave 6a provided on the car 5 from the sheave 2a and suspending it on a second sheave comprising the sheave 2b. The car 5 is lifted by lifting the suspension sheave 6a provided on the car 5 by the main rope 8 by cooperative action of the sheaves 2a, 2b connected to each other by the clutch device 3 or by single action of the sheave 2a in such a state that the clutch device 3 is released and the sheave 2b is fixed by the brake 3.
