METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SENSOR DEPLOYMENT

This method of deploying a sensor (450) within a drill hole comprises positioning the sensor (450) within, and near the drilling end of, a drill string (410) within the drill hole. The sensor (450) has an elongated probe portion (455) configured to extend through a return inlet (420) at the drilling end of the drill string (410). The elongated probe portion (455) is urged towards the drilling end of the drill string (410) such that the elongated probe portion (455) is fed out through the aperture (420) so as to extend from the sensor (45), through the aperture (420), to the exterior of the drill string (410). Guided propagation borehole radar logging is also provided. A borehole radar (62, 66) is deployed in electromagnetic coupling with a waveguide member (60, 64) positioned along the borehole. Electromagnetic signals are launched from the radar (62, 66) for propagation along the waveguide member (60, 64). Reflected electromagnetic signals are received from the waveguide member (60, 64) and can be spectrally warped to improve reflection clarity.
