摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image compression method and device in which a memory for temporarily storing image decompression data of one screen is not required and the memory capacity being incorporated in the device can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The image compression method comprises an information setting step; an entropy decoding step; an information extracting step; a rearrangement step; and an entropy encoding step wherein original image compression data is rearranged in the order based on the set information without being translated into image data in the actual space. The information setting step sets information for defining a coupling block including a plurality of blocks. The entropy decoding step translates the original image compression data into image data of spatial frequency region by entropy decoding. The information extracting step extracts information about the coupling block from the image data of spatial frequency region. The rearrangement step rearranges the image data of spatial frequency region, based on the extraction date.
