The invention relates to a method for operation of the drivetrain of a vehicle, comprising a propulsion engine, for example, an internal combustion engine and a torque converter, for example, an automatic gearbox, or an automated manual gearbox, for example, for a motor vehicle, whereby the drivetrain is provided with a freewheel function for overrun phases and the release or locking of said freewheel function is achieved by means of the accelerator pedal or the brake pedal, for an improved and more flexible matching to the actual driving conditions.
