The method involves monitoring an actuator (2) of an adjuster (4), having a fixed part (6) and a moveable part (8), for preventing imminent clamping during a control step of the adjuster. A line arrangement (10) is arranged in a closing and or opening area (B) of the adjuster, where a high frequency signal (HF) is fed, and a parameter (P) of an alternating field (F) is formed between the moveable part and the fixed part is measured. An object (H) influences the alternating field by using the measured parameter and identified in the closing and or opening region of the adjuster. An independent claim is included for a monitoring device.
