The method involves determining degree of criticality of information and acoustically delivering the information by a polyphonic sound or a sound sequence. Harmony of the sound or the sound sequence is selected depending on the criticality of the information. A harmonization is emitted as the information in an obstacle, and criticality of the harmonization increases with a declining distance. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a driver warning device with an acquisition unit (B) an application of a driver warning device for a distance measuring unit or a parking spot measurement in a motor vehicle.
