An endoscope provided with an imaging element having a substantially rectangular imaging area at the inserting part. The endoscope further comprises an observation window provided at the front end of the inserting part in order to introduce light from an object to the imaging element, and first, second and third illuminating members provided around the observation window on the front end face at the front end in order to illuminate the object. The first illuminating member is disposed closely to the first side of the substantially rectangular area while the second and third illuminating members are disposed closely to two corners at the opposing ends of the second side of the substantially rectangular area opposing to the first side.
