A compact cutter 120 includes a cubic boron nitride (CBN) layer 124 sandwiched between layers of thermally stable polycrystalline diamond 128 and a carbide substrate 122. More than one layer of CBN may be present and the CBN layer may have inner and outer regions differing in the amount of CBN. The interfaces between the layers may be non-planar. Methods of forming the compact are also disclosed. |
