PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiping means suitable for an ink jet recorder equipped with two recording heads. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder is equipped with recording heads 7, 8 mounted on a carriage 1 and reciprocated in the width direction of a recording sheet, a capping device 12 arranged in the non-printing region of the recording heads 7, 8 and equipped with cap units 16, 17 for individually sealing the recording heads 7, 8 corresponding to the moving of the carriage 1, and a pump unit 30 equipped with a suction pump to be driven upon receiving power from a drive source. The ink jet recorder is furthermore equipped with a wiping blade for wiping the ink stuck on the nozzle forming face of the recording heads 7, 8, with a space member allowing the wiping blade to come in contact arranged between the recording heads 7, 8.
