A lathe &c. tool holder or a milling cutter comprises a seat 3 against which a tip 7 is secured by a clamp 12, the seat and tip being adjustable along a shank or body 1 by adjusting means 19, 22. A chip breaker 9 may be located between the tip 7 and the clamp, which is set by a screw 11, the contacting faces of the clamp and chip breaker being serrated or ribbed at 13, 14. Further serrations 8 locate the tip 7 on the seating, which is guided by ribs 5, 6 on the shank 1. The seating may be adjusted by a screw or, as shown, by an eccentric 22 engaging a slot 23, Fig. 6 (not shown), in the seat 3. A shaft 16 carrying the eccentric passes through the clamp and a key 18 engaging keyways 24, 25 in the shank and clamp. A spring-pressed pin 26 retains the key 18, which transmits clamping pressure from the clamp 12 to a shoulder 21 on the shaft 16, the eccentric end 22 of which bears on the seat 3. Alternatively or in addition to the clamping action of shaft 16, a separate clamping screw may secure the rear end of the seat. |
