<p>1,060,535. Recording and playback apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 4, 1965 [March 7, 1964], No. 9253/65. Heading G5R. A device for processing tape with a perforated time track in which the tape runs at a uniform speed outside the device, and is fed step-wise between two storage mechanisms inside the device for processing is characterized in that the length of the steps is determined by a pulse source co-operating with the time track and a magnetic brake. The tape 4, Fig. 1, is fed by electro-magnetically engaged drive rollers 2,8 and 3,9 through storage mechanisms 5,21 and over a sprocket wheel 11 having slots 11<SP>1</SP> which co-operate with a lightsource and photo-electric cell 12, 13. The output from the cell whenever a slot passes the light applies an electromagnetic brake 10 to stop the tape under the punch 7 allowing data to be punched on to it. During this time, tape is stored in one of the storage mechanisms and is paid out of the other to allow the external tape speed to remain constant. The storage mechanisms. Fig. 3 (not shown), each comprise a pair of striking plates with a number of arms 17, 18 which co-operate with the tape. The tape stored may be varied by altering the pitch circle of the pins. The brake, Fig. 2 (not shown), comprises a wedge-shaped armature 10<SP>11</SP> which presses the tape against a pad of friction material. Similar electromagnets are used to engage the pinch rollers 8, 9.</p> |
