<p>Linear polyesters are stabilized by addition of compounds <FORM:1065515/C3/1> <FORM:1065515/C3/2> where R is an alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, haloalkenyl, alkoxyalkyl, aryloxyalkyl, alkoxyhaloalkyl or aryloxyhaloalkyl radical of 1-12 C atoms, R1 is -OR or an aromatic hydrocarbyl or halohydrocarbyl radical of 6-12 C atoms, Z is hydrogen, or a hydrocarbyl, halohydrocarbyl, carboalkoxyhydrocarbyl, alkylthiohydrocarbyl, alkoxyhydrocarbyl or cyanohydrocarbyl radical of 1-17 C atoms or a furyl or thienyl radical, and n is an integer. Amounts of stabilizer of 0.05 to 0.30% of the total composition are suitable. The polyesters may be prepared from dicarboxylic acids and glycols (lists given), preferably from dimethyl terephthalate or terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. They may be modified by addition of 0.05-4.0 mole per cent of the diacid or ester of a chain-terminator, e.g. monohydroxy polyethers, e.g. methoxypolyethylene glycol, and/or 0.05-2.4 mole per cent of a chain-branching or cross-linking agent, e.g. aliphatic and aromatic polyalcohols, or polycarboxylic acid esters, having more than two functional groups.</p> |
