[Also in Divisions D1, F2 and H1] A coil form or tube is made by helically winding and adhesively uniting the overlapped portions thereof, at least two ribbons of fibrous material to develop a laminar tube, at least one of the ribbons being impregnated with a partially cured phenolic resin, and subjecting the tube to heat to complete the cure. Preferably the ribbons are of kraft paper and the interiorly disposed ribbon is impregnated. A second ribbon may or may not be impregnated and a third ribbon, if used is preferably impregnated. The tube may be cut into sections to act as coil formers for transformers. A stick of formers is " gang " wound by conductors 17, 18, 19, 20 which are initially secured by an adhesive strip 21 and the stick is severed along the lines 17, 181, 19<SP>1</SP>, 20<SP>1</SP> when winding is complete, the outer layers of the conductors being secured by a further adhesive strip. After severance the inner lead can be " picked " from under the windings. |
