Coil form and method

[Also in Divisions D1, F2 and H1] A coil form or tube is made by helically winding and adhesively uniting the overlapped portions thereof, at least two ribbons of fibrous material to develop a laminar tube, at least one of the ribbons being impregnated with a partially cured phenolic resin, and subjecting the tube to heat to complete the cure. Preferably the ribbons are of kraft paper and the interiorly disposed ribbon is impregnated. A second ribbon may or may not be impregnated and a third ribbon, if used is preferably impregnated. The tube may be cut into sections to act as coil formers for transformers. A stick of formers is " gang " wound by conductors 17, 18, 19, 20 which are initially secured by an adhesive strip 21 and the stick is severed along the lines 17, 181, 191, 201 when winding is complete, the outer layers of the conductors being secured by a further adhesive strip. After severance the inner lead can be " picked " from under the windings.
