A fluid pressure reduction device with stacked disks (32, 34). Flow disks (3 2) with inlet stage slots (40) and outlet stage slots (42) alternate with plenum disks (34) having plenums (44) and bypass slots (54). The bypass slots are aligned with the inlet stage slots so the flow capacity increases continually in a substantially linear manner when us ed in a flow control valve and the valve flow control element uncovers more of the stacked disk flow inlet openings.
