Detecting and measuring interference contained within a digital carrier

A method of detecting in-band interference in a carrier signal in a communication system is disclosed which includes the steps of (a) acquiring a digital signal which includes receiving the signal, filtering the signal, digitizing the filtered signal and converting the carrier signal into an IF signal representative of the carrier signal, (b) formatting the digital signal where the formatting includes filtering the digital signal with or without knowledge of the carriers RF or modulation parameters, (c) performing decimation and re-sampling of the digital signal and (d) performing blind equalization and demodulation thereby forming an error vector that is representative of the interference.
