PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tensile test method and a device capable of performing inexpensively a test in a low speed area, in a tensile tester of a Hopkinson bar system. SOLUTION: An input rod 9 hangs down from an output rod 3 through a test piece 7, and centering of the input rod 9, the test piece 7 and the output rod 3 is performed automatically. After centering is finished, a striking pipe 4 is allowed to fall freely from a prescribed height, and to collide with an impact receiver 11 on the input rod lower end. An impact stress wave propagating in the input and output rods is measured by strain gages 10, 5 stuck on a position near each lower end of the input and output rods 9, 3, respectively.
