PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an epoxy resin composition having a high level of flame retardance without adding a halogen compound and without deteriorating basic characteristics (especially heat resistance) of a cured product. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant epoxy resin composition comprises 100 pts.wt. of an epoxy resin (component A), 1-200 pts.wt. of a curing agent (component B) and 0.1-200 pts.wt. of an organophosphorus compound (component C) represented by formula (1) äwherein, X<SP>1</SP>and X<SP>2</SP>may each be the same or different and are each an aromatic-substituted alkyl group represented by general formula (2) (wherein, AL is a 1-5C branched or linear aliphatic hydrocarbon group; Ar is a phenyl group, a naphthyl group or an anthryl group which may have a substituent in the aromatic ring thereof; n represents an integer of 1-3; and Ar may be bound to an optional carbon atom in the AL)}.
