PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrying device for supplying a medium from opposite two directions and accurately detecting a medium end to carry the medium, and to provide a recording device with the same. SOLUTION: The carrying device is provided with a detecting means 157b retreating from a carrying route interlocked with a support member when supplying the medium by operating a support member 52 for a driven roller 154 to separate the driven roller from a feed roller 153. With this structure, in the case of supplying the medium from one direction, the detecting means detects the medium end by touching or not touching the medium. In the case of supplying the medium from other direction, the detecting means retreats, and the medium can be normally supplied without generating an interference with the detecting means. Thereafter, the medium is supplied in one direction, and the detecting means detects the medium end with a touch or non-touch with the medium. Consequently, operation of the detecting means for touching and non-touching the medium is constant independently of the supplying direction, and the medium end can be accurately detected.
