The fixture has a lamp (4) and a ballast (10) for operating the lamp. A latent heat storage unit (7) containing a phase changing material is integrated in the fixture for protecting the ballast from heat. The storage unit partly and outwardly shields the ballast. The phase changing material is water, paraffin or salt hydrate. The ballast is thermally isolated from the housing of the fixture and is thermally connected with the unit (7).
