PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pulse pattern generator capable of flexibly and accurately setting and generating the period and the peak strength of a pulse. SOLUTION: In the optical pulse pattern generator 1, a pattern generating circuit 6 generates a pulse pattern 11 based on a pattern information inputted from a CPU 3, and the generated pulse pattern 11 is converted into a differential electric pulse signal 12 by a high speed differential I/O8 to output to an LD driving circuit 9. On the other hand, a luminous strength controller 5 outputs a luminous strength control signal 13 into the LD driving circuit 9 based on a luminous strength demanding value inputted from the CPU 3. The pulse pattern generating circuit 6 and the high speed differential I/O8 are driven by a reference clock 7 whereby a pulse width will not be affected by the pulse pattern 11.
