PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheet processing device capable of easily removing paper sheets stuffed by paper jamming even without additionally providing a mechanism for paper jamming countermeasures. SOLUTION: The paper sheet processing device 1 comprises a processing mechanism 43 to perform the predetermined for paper sheets P conveyed onto a processing reference face 91 set in the middle of a conveying path, a conveying path opening/closing unit 17 to expose at least a part of the paper sheets P in a paper-jammed condition in the conveying path, and a processing gap adjustment mechanism 51 to adjust the gap between the processing reference face and the processing mechanism 43 for processing the paper sheets P different in thickness. When a paper sheet is jammed, the processing gap adjustment mechanism 51 is automatically operated to set the gap between the processing reference face 91 and the processing mechanism 43 to a maximum.
