PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device of simple structure and a method for detecting the position of a pig without making the specifications of the device explosion-proof. SOLUTION: This device for detecting the position of the pig is used in a paint supply apparatus having a paint pipeline 5, in which the pig 10 is reciprocated, and provided with: a measurement means 13 for measuring the weight of a cleaning liquid when the paint pipeline on the front side of the pig is filled with the cleaning liquid and the pig is moved; a storage means 14 for storing the relations between the position of the pig and the weight of the cleaning liquid when the pig is moved; and a calculation means 15 for extracting the position of the pig from the relations between the position of the pig and the weight of the cleaning liquid, which are stored in the storage means, on the basis of the weight of the cleaning liquid measured by the measurement means.
