The method involves predicting the pressure prevailing at a high pressure side of a hydraulic actuator (30) at the beginning of a stroke adjustment process. The pressure is predicted based on the pressure changes occurring in a hydraulic system within a prediction interval. Time period for controlling a control valve (MV1) is computed based on a reference stroke of the actuator and the predicted pressure.
