PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a banknote handling apparatus which can be compactly constituted in a whole body without complicating a carrier part. SOLUTION: The banknote handling apparatus includes a plurality of temporary storage parts 35a-35f for sorting banknotes identified as authentic banknotes by a money kind and temporarily storing them; and a plurality of storage parts 45a-45f for storing the banknotes which are temporarily stored in the temporary storage parts 35a-35f by the money kind after a money reception establishment operation. The temporary storage parts 35a-35f are vertically arranged in a plurality of stages. The apparatus includes a temporary storage part horizontal movement means for horizontally moving the temporary storage parts 35a-35d in the stages other than the temporary storage parts 35e, 35f in the lowest stage, from a state that the temporary storage parts 35a-35f in the plurality of stages are overlapped in a plane view to a state that they are not overlapped in a plane view.
