PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for predicting freckles, and to provide a method for selecting cosmetics based on the above method. SOLUTION: The method comprises the following. When there is an amino acid variation at 92-site on the amino acid sequence of human melanocyte stimulating hormone-1 receptor(MC1R), it is judged that the probability of developing freckles on the skin or brownish hair is high. Alternatively, when there is an amino acid variation at 163-site on the amino acid sequence of human MC1R, it is judged that the probability of developing freckles on the skin is high. Alternatively, when there are two or more variations based on the number of amino acid variations at 92-site and 163-site on the amino acid sequence of human MC1R, it is judged that the probability of developing freckles on the skin or brownish hair is high.
