<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a loop back adapter for a diagnosis and a method for diagnosing a personal computer which can perform a diagnosis of LAN cables with ease, and a diagnosis of each part functions of personal computer hardware and of the LAN cables simultaneously with ease. <P>SOLUTION: In the method, a diagnosis of functions of each component in hardware 41 of the personal computer is performed by installing a diagnosis program 46 into a personal computer 11, or directly run the program from a FD, CD or given medium. The diagnosis of the LAN cables is performed by a adapter connecting step and the diagnosis step, and the diagnosis of the hardware is performed on the diagnosis step. In the adapter connecting step, a LAN cable 21 of which top a loop back adapter 31 is connected to a LAN connecting part 45 of the personal computer.
