<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element capable of preventing external light from being reflected without using a deflection plate for preventing reflection of external light, and an organic EL display device. <P>SOLUTION: This organic EL element 114 includes an anode 144 having transparent conductivity, a cathode 134, and an organic EL layer disposed between the anode 144 and the cathode 134, and the interface between the cathode 134 and the organic EL layer 134 is formed of a black material.
