PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable hydrogen flame ionization-type gas detector, constructed as one having sufficient explosion proofing properties, and accordingly, providing high safety. SOLUTION: In this hydrogen flame ionization-type gas detector of a portable type, hydrogen gas is ignited to form a hydrogen flame in a combustion chamber, sample gas is brought into contact with the hydrogen flame to thermally decompose the hydrogen gas, and an ion current thereby produced is detected to detect the concentration of hydrocarbon gas. The combustion chamber comprises an upward opening bottomed-cylindrical sensor case body and an incombustible gas-permeable cover plate for closing an upper end opening in the case body while the cover plate is made out of a metallic sintered body.
