PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the constitution for a function of inputting characters and data through a remote controller simple, while fulfilling the function, and to reduce the cost thereof. SOLUTION: A code representing data inputted in Kana(Japanese syllabary) from an operation acceptance portion 101 on the side of the remote controller 100 is transmitted as an infrared-light signal, from a transmitting circuit 103 to a receiving circuit 201 on the side of a digital television set 200 and converted by the principal-body side microprocessor 202 through Kanji(Chinese character) conversion into corresponding data, which are sent as a signal of infrared light, back to the side of the remote controller 100 from a transmitting circuit 203 through a receiving circuit 104, so that Kana-Kanji conversion operation is apparently performed only by the side of the remote controller 100 while viewing a display unit 105 at hand.
