PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communications system and a communication method for applying security processing, such as encryption and decryption to communication data to be transmitted/received by a terminal, without having to make the terminal perform complicated and a large number of processings. SOLUTION: The communications system is provided with the terminal 1 for performing transmission/reception of the communication data, and a communication device 2 connected to the terminal 1 and applying the encryption processing or decryption processing to the communication data to be transmitted/received by the terminal 1 and relaying the communication data. The communications device 2 acquires terminal information peculiar to the terminal 1, compares the terminal information with a previously stored security processing condition table describing the condition of the terminal information for performing encryption or decryption, and determines whether to apply the encryption or decryption to communication data to be relayed.
