PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an expansion joint which hardly causes the transmission of vibrations of sounds such as mechanical sounds, generated by one structure, to the other structure, and which is not greatly deformed even by wind pressure. SOLUTION: This expansion joint 3 for sealing a gap S, which is formed between the structures 1 and 2, comprises: a membrane material 4 with flexibility, which is arranged in the gap S, and which is provided in a stretched manner between the structures 1 and 2 by having one side edge 4a thereof fixed to the structure 1 facing the side edge 4a and having the other side edge 4b fixed to the structure 2 via a plurality of urging members 5; a cover member 6 which is provided in the structure 2, and which covers at least a section between the structure 2 and the side edge 4b of the film material 4; and a pressing material 7 which is provided on the cover member 6, and which presses the intermediate part of the membrane material 4 in an out-of-place direction thereof against an urging force of the urging member 5.
