PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle motor wherein communication holes are properly formed for compensating for a pressure difference resulting from a machining error of a dynamic pressure generating groove or each component, the dynamic pressure generating groove is also easily formed and the leakage of lubricating fluid is easily prevented. SOLUTION: An outer cylinder member is mounted on a shaft, a radial dynamic pressure bearing and a thrust dynamic pressure bearing are provided between the outer cylinder member and a sleeve, and the communication holes are formed between the shaft and the outer cylinder member and between a hub and the outer cylinder member. Since the outer cylinder member with a collar portion is mounted on the shaft, the communication holes are easily formed. Since the thrust dynamic pressure bearing is provided between an opening portion of the communication hole and a seal, the lubricating fluid hardly leaks from the seal. The outer cylinder member with the collar portion allows easy formation of the thrust dynamic pressure generating groove even in an inexpensive way of press-forming or the like.
