PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical switch that is highly reliable compared with a conventional mechanical type optical switch, that is compact as well as inexpensive, and that also has a built-in monitor for incident light. SOLUTION: The optical switch with a monitor is provided with: an electromagnetic driving system 1 composed of a U-shaped magnetic core which has an intermediate section and two side piece sections and which is wound with coils, a soft magnetic armature 2 which can face each of the side piece sections and which is oscillatably supported, and a permanent magnet which is arranged to add magnetic fluxes to the U-shaped magnetic core and the armature; a glass plate 3 which is an optical path converting means fixed directly onto the armature 2 and which has two reflection areas 22, 23 nearly parallel to each other; incident side optical fibers 14, 15 for making light incident on the optical path converting means; and exit side optical fiber 16 to which the light subjected to optical path conversion by the optical path converting means is coupled. In addition, between the incident side optical system and the optical path converting means, there are inserted optical filters 71, 72 having a function to reflect a part of the incident light in different directions, while photodiodes 73, 74 for detecting the quantity of the reflected incident light are installed at the position to which a part of the incident light is reflected.
