Identities (ID) of passengers occupying a motor vehicle's seats are detected for these seats (2.1-2.4). A safety profile stored in a memory (1.6) fixed to the vehicle is called up to adjust protective components (1.1-1.4) allocated to a seat like a safety belt or an airbag. If the ID of passengers in the seats is not ascertained, the components are subjected to standard pre-adjustment. An Independent claim is also included for a passenger protection system |
