PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of dehalogenating an organic halide by using a vitamin B<SB>12</SB>compound without using an electrolyte or a reducing agent. SOLUTION: The dehalogenation method of this invention is characterized in that the organic halide is brought into contact with the vitamin B<SB>12</SB>compound under light irradiation and under the presence of a solid photocatalyst. For instance, vitamin B<SB>12</SB>and a vitamin B<SB>12</SB>derivative (I) are used. Contact is performed in a solvent. The photocatalyst is a photocatalyst titanium oxide, and a dehalogenation catalyst composed by depositing the vitamin B<SB>12</SB>compound to the solid photocatalyst deposited on a base material is used.
