PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the head from damaging a disk by the impacts caused from the automatic paper feeder when closing its opening and closing component, shorten the time unable to use the magnetic disk drive while the head is retracting, and quicken retracting and returning of the head while accessing data. SOLUTION: This device checks whether the HDD 34 is accessing the data or not when it detects that the open and close components have opened or begun to close. It retracts the head to the retraction area where the head can quickly return when accessing data, but moves the head outside the disk maintaining it in an unloaded state which is high in shock resistance when not accessing.
